Trust Issues

LOVE THAT GROWS WITHIN
A collection of devotional series for women
BY LUCIA BRACHO

Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions.

With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every

decision you make.” (Proverbs 5:3 TPT)

A Wow-Pow

Have you ever felt that you are unable to trust people or even yourself? What happens when we don’t trust the word of God? At a certain point in our lives we all face insecurities, and sooner than later we hit the wall of hesitancy. With it, we face situations that redefine how we filter trust. But first and foremost, can we define what trust is?

Through the years and in different stages of my life, the word trust has had different shapes and meanings. However, those were just words conceptualizing what God himself is—security (A WOW-POW straight from heaven.)

From deception to revelation

As I was turning the pages of Under Cover, there was a specific paragraph that caught my attention: John Bevere was talking about how Eve was deceived by the serpent. Long story short, John goes deeper into the plot formed against Eve—what led her to eat from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil—AKA disobedience. He elaborately depicts what caused her to disobey God’s command: She never had a revelation of obedience! I know! I was as shocked when I read it as you are right now!

It seems like our girlfriend here never heard God’s commandments straight from God’s mouth! it was Adam whose communicated knowledge was passed to her. Simply put, we can have an idea of knowledge but living in uncertainty, the only way you close the gap is when you go to the source. For example, it’s like trying to guess the meaning of a foreign word by the sound of it—struggles of a language student (being sarcastic). But for real, you can take a guess but it’s when you go to the source (the dictionary) that you find the accurate concept. Does that make sense to you?

Furthermore, Jesus warned us in Matthew 24:4-5, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.” We have to be careful with what and who we listen to. On the same note, Paul in his letter to the Ephesian elders encourages us to be watchful: “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God” (Acts 20:28 NIV).

Remember, what the enemy can’t kill, he distracts and distorts (John 10:10 NIV). It is pivotal to know and to own the character of our creator in order to avoid deception, and that comes from spending time with Him. The bible says draw closer to him and He will draw closer to you (James 4:8).

Rely on His word and believe every word He speaks to you because He is who He says he is, and He keeps his promises! (2 Timothy 2:13). Aren’t you thankful we have a God who keeps his word and loves us no matter how many times we run away from Him?

He loves you beyond your imagination or comprehension and He is waiting for you to come to Him. I encourage you this week to sit down and have a conversation with Him, let Him clear every doubt, let Him pour his presence over you:

  • If Eve was deceived, we are not exempt from it.
  • Having doubts? Let Jesus close the gap.
  • Guard your heart, mind, and spirit (Ephesians 6). And watch out for your fam!
  • Draw closer to Him and He will draw closer to you (James 4:8)
  • Trust Him and his promises (Habakkuk 2:3)

Prayer of the week

Heavenly Father, kill everything that is against you and your plans for my life. As I draw closer to you, let me know you more intimately. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen!
