The Man Gideon: A Victim Turned Victor (Week 3)

Week 3: Identity Crisis.

Scripture Reading: Judges 6:1-16

Synopsis: Gideon has an encounter with the Lord where he was introduced to how God views him. God sees you as more than what you are.

The angel of the LORD revealed Gideon’s identity when He called him a mighty man of valor. God does not see us the way we see ourselves. He sees our potentials and calls us by who He predestined us to be. God has a way of calling things that are not as if they were. When Jesus met Simon, He called him Cephas or Peter (rock). Peter was not even close to being solid at that time but God called him by who He predestined him to be. God changed Abraham’s name from Abram to Abraham (father of many) while he was still barren. Revelation is the catalyst that activates dormant potential; an agent that awakens sleeping warriors. God had to reveal the “valor” within him for him to break away from the weakness.

Revelation is the catalyst that activates dormant potential; an agent that awakens sleeping warriors.”

Gideon had a wrong belief that God abandoned Israel because his focus was solely based on what the enemy was doing, but he did not see God’s salvation. God is an immutable God; He can never change for there is no shadow of change in Him. His love does not change towards us; it can neither increase nor reduce based on our actions or thoughts, His love is always constant (Psalm 94:18). Every time God is quiet; He is up to something big. Look at Isaiah 49:15 it states “can a woman forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she bore? Though she may forget, I will not forget you”. Hebrews 6:18 (NLT) says, ” So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.” He is a gracious and loving Father and He will never ever forget you.

Memory Verse: “And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, mighty man of valor!” Judges 6:12 NKJV

Prayer: Father I thank you that you hear my questions and thoughts regarding so many things. Thank you for never shunning me or turning your eyes from me. Help me Father to know and trust my identity in you and thank for the strength to walk it out for you.
