Great Men: Myron Rolle

A lot of us are familiar with series from popular magazines like the ‘Top 100 Beautiful People’, or the ’50 Sexiest Men on Earth’, etc. A typical series would feature someone like George Clooney and tout him for his chiseled jaw and his steamy eyes; and then go on to talk about his money and good works. That’s all fine and dandy. But the truth of the matter is, a chiseled jaw and steamy eyes are not what makes a man truly great. It’s easy to get stuck on the physical, but what about the character? So, I decided I would use this blog to provide images of what a great man truly looks like. Ladies, brace yourselves. Men, be inspired. First up is Myron Rolle

I wasn’t familiar with him, until recently when I ran across a news headline that read ‘Rhodes Scholar Moves Past the NFL For Medical School’ My first reaction? “Who is this person?” Myron Rolle is simply unique. He is a superstar athlete, drafted to the NFL by the Tennessee Titans in 2010. But Rolle didn’t just come with brawn and football skills. He came in as a distinguished scholar with a personal history of excellence.

Rolle maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout middle school and high school, where he played football and earned 21 advanced placement credits. He followed that with a 3.75 GPA as a pre-med student athlete at Florida State University.  Upon his graduation from college, he postponed a career in the NFL to pursue a Master’s degree at The University of Oxford. Beyond the classroom, Rolle has been a saxophone player, a writer, and a philanthropist. As founder of the Myron L. Rolle Foundation, he volunteers his time supporting health and educational initiatives for children and families in need. Talk about a modern day David.

Next up for Myron? He’s leaving the NFL for medical school -he is also an aspiring neurosurgeon. I wondered why this man is so different. He’s got an excellent spirit, discipline, a desire to be poured out, and a desire to be great, which will definitely get you somewhere in life. But as I learned more about Myron, I realized the most important thing about him: he’s a humble man who loves God (You can look him up and find out). That is the source of it all. I remember the scripture that says the path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining brighter and brighter till the full light of day (Proverbs 4:18). From one phase to the next, Myron’s life has proved it to be true.

And the world has noticed…
